TED Talk Critique
Sherry Turkle gave a TED talk on the overuse of cell phones. Sherry went on to explain that people are more reliant on their phones than they are with each other. A big problem in today's world is how often people need their phones and how they depend on them so greatly. People's social skills are decreasing, because they would rather go on their phone then deal with any sort of social interaction.
Sherry was very clear and to the point when it came to her speech. Sherry gave real life examples as well. one of which included her own daughter, who would "spend time" with her friends but they all were just too engaged with their phones to even be talking or doing anything. Sherry believes that the rapid growth of technology is a great thing but it is taking away a lot of social interaction which is an essential quality in our society.
The presentation of Sherry's speech had many good qualities. Sherry was able to support her topics of discussion by connecting her information with real life examples. Such as the one expressed previously. Strong PowerPoint slides were used and the tone and voice of the speech was very direct.
The points given in Sherry's speech were very true and I agree with them completely. Technology is going to continue to increase and become more advanced. As this occurs we need to use our technology in a smart way. If we do not do so I believe that our world would be so technologically based that there would be little to no human interaction.
Sherry's speech was a very powerful and well thought presentation. Sherry believes that our world is getting too far into technology and we are losing touch with reality. Many things could be done in order to prevent this from happening. This is becoming a big problem but moderation with technology could help keep our society the way it should be.
